Volume II: MATERIA MEDICA and HERBAL RESOURCE. For me this book has been indispensable as a source of information regarding chinese herbal wisdom on every herb we grow here. It also contains dozens of recipes for specific conditions. This book is in our library for my use as well as for WWOOFers and interns to borrow. Highly recommended.
This book is a comprehensive growing guide based upon North American growing principles and common language and USDA zones. It covers almost all of the Traditional Chinese Medicinal herbs that can be grown in North America. It covers soils, exposure, germination and propagation, and, my favorite, ornamental uses. In our library, and highly recommended.
I have to describe this book as more of a guide to Ayurvedic Living than a deep dive into Ayurvedic medicine. There are chapters on diet, breathing, focusing (that somehow avoid yogic practices), and even thinking. It does have remedies, but the scientific rigor of these isn't well-documented. I'd have to call this one more homey than practical.
I just ordered this one, so I haven't read it yet, but I was excited to see Michael Tierra as co-author because he is also an author on Chinese Traditional Herbal Medicine (above), which I've found extremely helpful. I'll read this one as soon as it comes and review accordingly. I'm going ahead with the link to buy because I'm pretty confident this one will be a winner.
A comprehensive guide to growing at commericial scale. Their operation is a LOT bigger than ours, and uses a lot of large farm equipment, but I especially love their information of inter-planting crops. They also give quite a bit of information on organic pest control and fertization. Definitely more of a textbook than casual reading. Part of our library and very highly recommended.
Rosemary Gladstar is an authoring legend in the field of herbal medicine; this was the most comprehensive book I could find for her. It contains scads of recipes from soups to salves. Many of them can be sourced from fresh herbs we grow. I especially recommend this book for anyone wanting to venture into herbal remedies, or who is joining our Herbal Adventure CSA.
